Dear Parent,

We hope the children are enjoying this discovery of new aspects and new styles of music. Using rhythm motifs like these is an art, and is well known in South Indian music as β€˜Konokkol’. For our limited use, it is an extremely useful tool to learn and internalise rhythm and make patterns with it.

Dear Hayaan
Here are some yummy fruits Tootly sends for you! πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ‹πŸ‰πŸ‡πŸ

We know its difficult to learn a whole new language, so here are some ideas we thought might help:

Step 1: become comfortable with 4 new words by saying them a few times out aloud everyday – taam, taka, takita,
takadimi (don’t worry about number of claps or fruits yet)

Step 2: Once you remember all 4 words; keep practising to say them in different order too

Step 3: Now start to remember how many claps each has

Step 4: start saying the Ms Mridangam word, then number of claps and the corresponding fruit names

STep 5: come back to this lesson and now try to sing the phrases in beat, on your own

Do spend some time on this; it might seems tough at first, but it will be a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.

Look forward to hearing more from you πŸ™‚
